FAQ
I am here to help you.
Recording of interpreting services - what do I need to keep in mind?
Interpreting is always integrated into a specific situation. The spoken word applies. If it is planned to record an interpretation for re-use or broadcast, this needs to be discussed in advance with the interpreters (exploitation rights). Recordings will be charged separately.
Cancellation fee - fee despite cancelled event?
Conference interpreters start early to familiarise themselves with a specific subject area and do not accept any further assignments or cancel requests for other assignments if a day has already been booked. Therefore, please understand that in case of cancellation after conclusion of the contract, a cancellation fee based on the date of booking and any non-refundable travel expenses already incurred will be charged. If the interpreter receives an enquiry for the same day/period, he deducts the remuneration received from the cancellation fee.

VKD within the BDÜ - what is it?
Behind the acronym VKD within the BDÜ is the Verband der Konferenzdolmetscher (German Association of Conference Interpreters within the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators) - represented here on the Internet at https://vkd.bdue.de/.
VKD members meet the admission criteria, are committed to the Code of Professional Conduct of the profession and are professional conference interpreters.
Provision of documents - when do the interpreters need the documents for preparation?
The sooner the better. PowerPoint files on a USB drive can still be useful during the conference. However, it is always worth asking the speakers in good time for information about the presentation and sending it to the interpreters. Then they are simply better prepared than when content is only available at the last minute. It is a good idea to provide most of the documentation 14 days before the event.
Price for translations - how much do I have to pay?
JBM Translations calculates the price of a translation on the basis of a standard line of 55 characters each.

The price per line varies according to the subject, difficulty and file format of the source text.
The delivery date also plays a role in pricing. If an express translation is required, a fixed express surcharge will be charged.
In order to send you a prompt and accurate quotation, the following data is required:
-
Source text as .doc, .docx or ppt file, for example
-
Desired / required delivery date of the translation
-
Information about the file format of the translation / target text.
Quality - how can I be sure to get the best quality?
Quality is not a product of chance, but the sum of professionalism, collegiality and a structured process.
Since the job titles interpreter and translator are not protected, it is often difficult for third parties to be sure of the quality of an interpreter or translator when requesting a quotation.
This is where a membership of a professional association can provide some security.
Prices and fees - how much does an event cost me?
The respective fee depends on the duration of the interpreting assignment, the type of interpreting and the content of the event.

We would be pleased to provide you with a non-binding cost estimate and detailed advice.
In general, a daily rate will be charged.

The fees could be composed of different factors. These are, for example:

-
Preparation time

Recording fee (copyright)
-

-
Handling fees for the organisation service and event consulting
